Twelve + Twelve is an interactive series of colors and Sounds that represent a symbiotic relationship. By measuring sound waves and color frequency,
this determined the corresponding color for each sound in the musical scale. A sign generator (as in hearing tests) is used to create pure tones,
which are activated by buttons on the cube.The visual form repeated in the work is the square.
light boxes act as color swatches to symbolize the mathematical relationship between sound and light frequencies, which are similar in nature.
Contemporary art challenges's the notion of the gallery space as a framework in and of itself, which is where the notion of the "white cube" comes
into play. As an installation, the work references the historical aspects of traditional painting in a traditional gallery setting. Given the nature of Hadid's
anti-gallery aesthetic, as well as the concept of The UnMuseum itself, the installation bridges the gap between the old and the new. Moreover, it offers
UnMuseum patrons an educational tool, which can be used to discuss art, science, architecture, and specifically the notions of what it means to
paint and what an art space entails in contemporary culture.
